In a Muddle
Everyone has heard of clearing or decluttering in different rooms. Some choose the rooms they use frequently so clearing gives them a quick result.
Year after year one or several rooms may be left cluttered because they run out of steam. An alternative is to choose a theme. I use this for my clients whose home is in a Muddle. A home that was organised and due to different circumstances is in a Muddle but the basic structure of the organised home is still there.
This method will not work for a hoarder, as they can’t find what they own.
Some THEMES to try
Holidays.
- Check, recharge or recycle all batteries in the home
- Sort and organise all your board games and puzzles
- Download, organise & backup your digital photos
- Organise and update your First Aid Kits
- Collect all the sun creams from the car, swimming bags, school bag and all areas around the home. Check for use by date and make a shopping list to renew if necessary
Stationary (Fun for Kids)
- Collect all stationery (pens, pencils, highlighters etc) in your whole home
- Collect each item group. Put all lead pencils together. Sharpen them all. Bind them with elastic bands. Then all pens of varying colours until all are done
- The kids can set up a shop and sell the supplies to their parents
- Now each person in the home comes and chooses or buys what they NEED
- The excess is then stored or recycled or donated.
I tailor themes to suit homes so clients can:
- Find out what they own
- Become aware of the quantity of items they own
- Store all items better
- Have the whole family involved
This method also enables people to get into different areas of their home. They declutter the excess, out of date, broken and not used items in their life that relate to the theme.
Homes in a muddle become organised homes.
